Raja Nukuhehe on Seid. Pottery is made at Said. Said is pela with Ou. The story goes like this: there were two brothers. They quarreled. The younger took some earth from Oul in his kora2 and left, arriving at Ou, on Saparua, where he entered Christianity. At Ou he threw his earth on the ground, and that is why that village is called Ou, because the earth was from Oul, at Said. The art of pottery making was his trade, and the potters of Ou go to the place where he threw his earth to get their clay to this day. The people of Ou are more expert in the art of pottery making than those of Seid today. There are no other pelas. Theoretically there shouldn't be intermarriages but it is permissible if both parties are of the same religion. The word "Seid" means "parang". The reason the village is so named is as follows: Long ago, when the villages were still located in the interior, SEid fought with Alang. All the men of Seid had parangs, and so they won. Therefore the name. The people of Seid used to place their bubus at Alang. They went on foot from Wawane. Seid was the first village to come to the coast. Thgat's why, even though there were five original villages, the present village goes by that name. Seid first. Then our ancestor's village, NAMALANE, who became ruler because he asked the other villages to join him. The other names were LULEHU, WASALA, LAIN, and HATUNA. Wawane is not the name of a man. It is the name of a mountain, LATUWAWANE MERELY MEANS KING OF WAWANE, which is where the ruins of old Seid stand. There are old cannons there. Ioteia was a Dutch woman. She was wife to Lewakabesi. Her father had come to fight there and they had captured her from him. She married Lewakabesi later. He later returned by ship to fight Lewakabesi, who was at Kapahaha, which means on board ship (kapa=ship. haha=upon. None of the Dutch party knew the secret trail to Kapahaha. At that time there was a woman who went down to the beach. They found her and gave her rice in a leaky container. It was the prophet's birthday, and a time of feasting. They followed the trail of the rice leak, where the woman had walked. The feast over, the men of Kapahaha slept. The Dutch forces under captain________________surrounded them. A terrible battle followed, and the Dutch forces made a massacre, in which Lewakabisi died. Koteia, dressed in pants, joined in the fray. She had real prowess (jago). Without knowing, her father killed her. Then, removing her ring, he read the inscription and realized he had killed his own daughter. Yaba-hitu was contemporary with Lewakabesi. There were kapatas for different purposes. Bark cloth was used. Parangs, spears, and bow and arrows were used. No slings. bows were made of vine. Arrows of steel or midrib. Fire was made by striking flint on barut fibre. Sharks were called by incantation. Head-hunting and cannibalism were practised. The lateng family of Hila have old written records. Burial was in horizontal position. There were Kabals which could not be cut by papang*****. (form of witchcraft? Ghosts?) We are of the Patalimas. Teun Uliala and Ehalatu/. Islam came from Ternati(?). I am the third Raja since the village was settled.
