Of old there were 8 negeris on Nusa laut. There are now 7. The missing one is Mulaxa, an Islam village which had a fieerce kapitan. He was called the 4-eyed kappitan, but actually he wore a mirror on his shield. The people of the other villages of Nusalaut despised his cruel habits, and devised a scheme to overcome him. They spread sago branches at the place of battle and retreated so that the 4-eyed one ran after them across the sago branches and slipped and fell. The others were already prepared with bamboo and wood poles with wich they rushed in and covered him and so they killed him, and all the people of mulaxa fled, and the lands of Mulaxa fell to Amet and Titawai. At Titawai 2 brothers argued over the Sukun tree and the little brother moved away with part of the land to avoid a quarrel. This land became Ambelau, where therer are also 7 villages. Pela Leinitu-Liang. During the Hongi wars, the raja of Leinitu stopped at Liang on his way back and stayed at the king of Liang's house. The raja of Leinitu lost his heart to the raja of Liang's daughter. She wanted to marry him,but her parents refused because of religious differences. Even though he could not marry her, the radja of Leinitu made a pela with her village-Liang,for they had lived together as bretheren. Intermarriage is not allowed between the 2 villages.Nusalaut is divided into 2 portions: Ina Luhu and Ina Haha. Ina Haha was 4 villages, andIna luhu was three.Tanasale, 79, of Leinitu, Nusalaut. There were 2 brothers at Madura. They developed an argument over a seat, and our ancestor Radin Saleh (one of the brothers) set sail in a korakora (no outriggers) with the ancestors of the Latuperisas, the SILANOS, the Tomasoas, the Titiherus. Radin Saleh's real name was Xainusa (Hook-island, to hook an island, "Gai Pulau"). Because he had no land at Nusa-laut, where he finally arrived, he was called Tanasalo (Tanah Apa), but in memory of his other name of Radin Saleh it was changed again to Tanasale. He landed at Pesuri, where he went searching for water with his spear. Finding no spring he thrust his spear into the ground and the stream called Haiaka at Titawai gushed forth. From there he went into the hills to Henasiwa (Nine Villages), where he married the daughter of a kapitan. He was instrumental in moving the village to the coast, so the Dutch made him king of Leinitu, where the Tanasales reign to this day. There is also a stream called Tanasale at Poka. He landed at many places along the way. He let off people at 3 places. Contact Nyong Tanasale of Batugantung, who lives across from the church. Also: Mateas. Th.
