Welcome to ancient Ternate!
A translation into English has recently been made of the book, "Ternate," by F.S.A. de Clercq, originally published in Dutch in 1890. (***** Don't click on this one unless you have the time to download it because it is a very large .pdf file *****). This is a truely excellent work that digs deep into the ancient culture, languages, and history of Maluku, and leaves the reader feeling as though he/she had really been living with the Dutch governor and the native sultan of Ternate, and criss-crossing the Moluccan seas in flying proas or kora-koras.
Included here also is the scant material I was able to collect from an interview with the ethnic Chinese historian, Diao, at Calvari Pantekosta Missi during my visit there in 1968.
